The Gentle Cycling Company is based 8 kms south of Nelson city in the suburb of Stoke (not far from Nelson airport) and we share a site with Nikau Gardens, Nelson's much-loved Native Plant Nursery. If you are planning a freedom hire, we are centrally positioned for access to cycleways, including the Railway Reserve and Coastal Cycleway, which link Nelson city and Richmond. Our country rides start at our base, where we load up the bikes and drive out to the start of your ride. For most of our country rides, town pickups from your accommodation are available.

Our bikes are Giant Comfort bikes with comfortable seats, drink bottle holders and a light box on the back for carrying your picnic or any bottles of wine you might purchase en route. The bikes have 7 gears which are a breeze to change (no complicated levers, just one dial on the handgrips) so even the least experienced cyclist will enjoy the ride. We have women’s and men’s bikes in a range of sizes to suit differing heights. Bikes are equipped with pumps and spare inner-tubes (and photographic instructions in case you need to repair a puncture.) Bikes have chain guards to keep your clothing away from the chain and also have maps hanging from the handlebars making it easy to read en route. And when you stop, simply put the bike on its stand, lock it up with the bike lock and it will be secure until you return.
