Fresh and simple - food to share. This is the mission statement of the Boatshed Mapua and the "virtually on the sand" setting only adds to that experience.
The Boatshed Mapua is the sister of the Boatshed Nelson, where again, the location is definitely part of the experience. The Boatshed in Nelson has recently undergone a major rebuild, after it's "close to the water" position became a little too close when a storm surge seriously damaged the building. Happily, all is well again, and the restaurant is up and running again, providing a fabulous destination for dinner in the glow of the sunset over the Nelson Haven.
Owner of both Boatsheds is Daniel Monopoli, a Nelson chef with a passion for food and plenty of experience in hospitality. The menu's at the Boatsheds reflect a love for local, fresh food and beautiful ingredients, with favourites such as a Double Baked Goat Cheese and Roast Garlic Souffle or a Braised Beef Short Rib with cauliflower puree, fresh pear, fennel, endive and caraway salad.
The Boatshed Mapua is located within the grounds of a large holiday park, the Mapua Leisure Park. The Leisure Park has a sometimes rather surprising quirk, in that it is "clothes optional" for campers in February and March. For the comfort of diners, this is not permitted near the restaurant.
